Back from a long and exhausting intergalactic mission and now a certified Space Pirate, Gobs De BXL has returned to the station to bring us his mystical 'Or Congo EP'.
'Or Congo', with its double meaning (gold from Congo/out of Congo) sets the stage for a wee bit of reflection on consumer driven societies and their waste.
The tune itself takes us on a journey through the roughness of the mines, with a narrative voice explaining how western marauders arrive on the oldest continent to exploit its natural resources. It rolls out hard and unrelentlessly with only a brief respite when Steve Jobs announces his latest socially destructive toy.
Ifixit continues the narrative a bit further down the supply chain and chuckingly nods to the same name brand of electronic repair tools. As a tune, it bounces around a sticky bass and rhythm pattern that's bound to make some knees twist. Expect the unexpected!
King Of The Jungle is where Gobs' talent for ultraminimalistic, yet mesmerizing and very specific moods really shines. This tune is dryer than week old toast and will stick in your head like freshly chewed bubble gum.
The EP tops off with the 'Flemish Garage Edit' of Ifixit, an even more unexpected twist to this already unique groove.
